LIL Sponsors HBCU Innovation Summit in Silicon Valley

Lowe's Innovation Labs was proud to sponsor UNCF's Historically Black Colleges and Universities Fourth Annual Innovation Summit, and to take part in the empowering message that UNCF is conveying to future African American innovators.

The goal of the HBCU Innovation Summit is to diminish the diversity gap in technology fields, where job growth is continuing to boom, but the percentage of African Americans in the STEM workforce remains low at only six percent (NYT). UNCF aims to empower African American students to begin careers in the STEM fields, and to increase support across Silicon Valley and throughout innovative organizations. 53 students were competitively selected from HBCUs to attend the summit, where they had the opportunity to visit Silicon Valley companies, participate in tech empowerment workshops, and a technical career fair.
